Born Nanayate Abedoh, DJ Nana is a renowned female disc jockey in Nigeria and a worthy protégé of famous DJ Jimmy Jatt after having graduated Jimmy Jatt Inc. She learnt from the finest hand in the industry and has proved that in numerous occasions. She’s one of the best female disc jockeys in Nigeria ranked among the top 5, and has come a long way starting at the age of 16 as a dancer. Nana transited from aspiring to be a musician to becoming a dancer and then becoming a professional disc jockey with a lot of grand performances trailing her. She’s got an impressive resume in the Nigerian entertainment industry at the backdrop of hard work, mentorship, and a zest for excellence despite being in a male-dominated industry.

Birth, Background and Early Life
DJ Nana was born on the 14th of May, 1990 in Lagos State, Nigeria. She’s from Okene, Kogi State and attended Lea St Joseph Secondary School in Lagos. She had an educational stint at the Lagos State University, where she had a Diploma in Law before proceeding to the National Open University, for her degree in Law.
She had a rough background with her parents splitting up when she was just 6 years old and she was breed by Grandmother in Kogi State, had a brief life with one of her Aunties in Abuja before settling back in Lagos where she was born.
How She Got Her Start
So at one point in her journey into the entertainment industry, DJ Nana found herself winning the first edition of a DJ Competition put together by Airtel/Barcardi Cool FM which was in 2011. This brought her to stardom and fueled her journey into professional disc jockeying. So it’s safe to say she began her journey fully in 2011.
But that was where she got crowned with all her efforts which began at the age of 16.
In an interview with Vanguard, DJ Nana revealed she had no intentions of becoming of a disc jockey but knew she loved music. She revealed further that she had no clue on how to focus on any part of the music she loved but then she loved to dance.
So fate found her when she met veteran musician, Sunny Nneji who then invited her to his office for auditioning. She informed the music star that she wanted a dancing job and for a reply, she was asked to hit it straight up with the dancing, no music, just a no-beat dance. Well, she impressed her judge who would later introduce her to a dancing group in Lagos. Unfortunately, age stood as a barrier for her and she was dropped by the group but kept on persisting.
Meeting DJ Jimmy Jatt
Her journey into stardom got a quantum leap after she met famed and foremost disc jockey, Jimmy Jatt while doing a Diploma in Law at the Lagos State University (LASU). It happened that she found herself immersed the heat of the moment at a street party in the Ojo area of Lagos, and it appeared that DJ Jimmy Jatt was in the grand scheme of things. He spotted her and admired her skills as an upstart disc jockey doing great for herself.
As success stories would go, she kept pitching Jimmy Jatt for mentorship and was turned down numerous times until he yielded and gave her a chance. Today the rest they say is history.
