Odeal is Set to Release His Summer EP, “Sunday At Zuris,” This Friday, July 5th.
Nigerian-born London-based artist Odeal announced on his Instagram page on Monday the release date for his summer 2024 project titled “Sunday at Zuris.” The artist offered an engagement bargain of 500 comments from followers in exchange for a release date. After receiving over 700 comments on the Instagram post, he yielded and declared that Friday, July 5th, will be the official release date for his project on streaming services.
The EP features four tracks. Onome, the lead single that made it to streaming sites on the 14th of June, shows Odeal breezing on simple log drum patterns and complimentary electric bass guitar that produce a smooth, catchy groove. The summer drop comes 8 months after his last release of one of the most sublimely executed Eps of 2023, “Thoughts I Never Said”. On “Thoughts I Never Said,” the R&B singer masterfully navigates themes of love, relationships, and heartbreak, sounding ethereal melodies with his voice.
The incoming project has seen subtle interactions with South African elements and influences. His current release, Onome, was rendered on an Amapiano production, which is rather new—finds the singer praising his romantic subject, who is likely of South African descent: “Naija with the southa combi o/ my type is a perfect combi o.” Likewise, the first track on the episode titled “Sondela” translates to “come closer” in Zulu, the largest ethnic group in South Africa. Consequently, listeners might expect the progression of a narrative set in South Africa, or perhaps, surprise guest artists from South Africa.
