Rema Births A New Sound With ‘Hehehe’

Rema Hehehe Review

Recall that sinister instrumental in the background of Rema’s Instagram post where he cosplayed as Batman? It turned out to be an unreleased music he had been teasing for weeks, which was eventually released at midnight as a single titled “Hehehe”. The single arrives less than 3 weeks after the release of Benin Boys, which features Shallipopi, and both are rumoured to be lead singles off Rema’s forthcoming Album, HE IS".

The Announcement

The announcement was made on Instagram via the artist’s community channel. Although, the musician has not officially verified it, the Album, which was uploaded on the community channel, contains six tracks and features Odumodublvck and Shallipopi as guest artists. However, Rema’s deliberate release of the new single around midnight on what will be a busy Monday aims to prove one thing: he’s on an influential wavelength far above his colleagues. It also references the intro to his chorus, “Monday morning talking about me while I’m making money, Hehehe".

The Lyrics

The record is yet another PSA in Rema’s discography; only this is a more explicit message arranged on a raw, energetic, multi-layered production poised to be the summer banger of the year. On the euphoric tune, Rema takes pride in his global success and makes claims to the Big 3 conversation. With obvious admiration for the greats who occupy the big 3 discourse, he asserts on the driving rhythm by producer X that there’s no longer a big 3 conversation, but a big 4. He suggests he has paid the price for a place at the table.

The Artwork

Rema presents his music with a high level of conscious effort, resulting in a more fascinating musical experience. For example, the artwork cover for “Hehehe” by Bryan Moss, Rema’s go-to illustrator since the Ravage EP project, is influenced to a degree by the Benin Ivory Mask. Rema’s foresight and his attention to rather subtle details, which are uncommon amongst his colleagues, make his claims on “Hehehe” legitimate.
