Smur Lee’s ‘Juju’ gained popularity immediately after she shared what is now an officially released song as a sound on TikTok in May of this year. The app’s amplifying quality rapidly turned the catchy sound into a viral tune overnight. Several accounts furthered it by capturing recordings to the sound and sharing them on their pages. Smur Lee is well-known for generating content on her TikTok page that includes vibing and sometimes free-styling to catchy Amapiano sounds. And, fortunately for her, the ‘Juju’ sound struck gold after numerous posts. In July 2024, Nigerian rapper and singer Odumodublvck posted an Instagram and TikTok video with his verse on the ‘Juju‘ sound. On Thursday, August 22, Smur Lee revealed that that was what began as a sound would be released as an official single on DSPs, featuring Native records Odumodublvck and Dapper’s Shallipopi. As of the time of publication, the song ranked third on the Top 100 Apple Music Nigeria and first on the Top 50 Spotify Nigeria.
The music video was set in a club, effectively presents the message of Smur Lee’s ‘Juju’ and breathes life into the lyrics. Directed by z3ro, the song’s narrative, which glorifies the proceeds of fraud, was shot to trail plot—Smur Lee and Odumodublvck in a club party setting, a DJ set in the backdrop presumably playing the record, money getting splurged, a half-clad woman dancing on a pole, and club goers raving. Shallipopi’s verse was cut to a clothing store scene, where the three artistes danced had a blast with the quick shifting angles camera.
The music video was released on Youtube a day ago and featured both guest artists The music video, which was uploaded on YouTube a day ago, and an appearance by Native Records co-president Teni Zaccheus Jr., aka ‘Teezee.’
