Police Confirm Arrest of Suspects in Lil Kesh Stabbing Case

In a significant development that has sent ripples through Nigeria’s vibrant music scene, the Kano State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of two suspects linked to the violent robbery and stabbing of Afrobeats sensation Keshinro Ololade, popularly known as Lil Kesh. The incident, which occurred on August 19, 2025, at the artist’s residence in Bera Estate, Chevron, Lagos, left fans and the industry in shock, with many fearing for the life of one of Nigeria’s most beloved musical talents.

The suspects, identified as Mathew Adewole, 25, of Na’ibawa Quarters, and Mukhtar Muhammad, 31, of Unguwa Uku Quarters, were apprehended on September 11, 2025, in Na’ibawa Quarters, Kano, following an intelligence-led operation. According to police reports, Adewole confessed to attacking Lil Kesh, inflicting a deep cut on his neck and forcing the singer to transfer ₦2.12 million from his bank account to Muhammad’s account during the robbery. The motive, authorities state, was rooted in armed robbery, with the assailants targeting Lil Kesh’s jewelry and valuables, including a multimillion-naira necklace.

The brutality of the attack—described as an attempted murder—sparked widespread concern among fans, who flooded social media with prayers and messages of support after graphic images of Lil Kesh’s injuries circulated online. The “Shoki” hitmaker sustained severe wounds, including a stab to the neck and a partially severed ear, but was promptly rushed to a medical facility where doctors stabilized him. Days after the incident, Lil Kesh took to X to reassure fans, stating, “I’m safe,” and confirming his recovery, a testament to his resilience and the outpouring of love from his supporters.

This arrest marks a critical breakthrough in the case, with the Kano State Police Command earning praise for their diligence. The suspects have been transferred to the Lagos State Police Command for further investigation and prosecution, signaling a commitment to justice in a case that underscores the vulnerability even high-profile figures face in Nigeria’s ongoing security challenges. Kano Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Bakori, emphasized the force’s dedication to law and order, urging continued public cooperation.

For the music industry, this incident is a sobering reminder of the risks artists face in the spotlight. Lil Kesh, a former YBNL star who rose to fame with hits like “Lyrically” and “Efejoku,” has long been a cultural force, blending Afrobeats and street pop to create anthems that resonate across Nigeria and beyond. His survival and the subsequent arrests offer a glimmer of hope, but they also reignite discussions about safety and security for artists who often become targets due to their visibility and wealth.
