With this year’s afro Nation, the weekend started earlier at the Brewery Douglas Site. Asake continued his Lungu Boy world tour streak; Rema entranced attendees with the infectious Ozeba; Ayra graced the stage with her charm; and Uncle Waffle brought with her an unmatched energy that spread through the crowd like a wildfire. The 2024 Afro Nation Festival started off with a small-scale event on Thursday, August 15th. A DJ series was scheduled for Thursday, and skating was showcased on Friday, where guests with the slickest moves competed for fun prizes. Afro Nation, one of many festivals that celebrates the essence of afrobeats, was distinguished by fantastic vibes and dance, with an impressive lineup on two festival stages: the Main (Lit) Stage and the Piano People Stage. The Main Stage was lined up with performances from Rema, Partynextdoor, Asake, Lil Wayne, Omah Lay, Kizz Daniel, Shenseea, Adekunle Gold, Amaarae, Ayra Starr, Charity, Ruger, King Promise, and Kash Doll. The Piano Stage featured Uncle Waffles, Scorpion Kings, Musa Keys, Dbn Gogo, TXC, Kamo Mphela, 2wobunnies, DJ Moma, Blakito, Donavan Glover, and DJ Mobu. Specially invited DJs included Sarz, Julz, Nana, Kwabena, Jae Murphy, DJbj 3525, Sky Jetta, DJ Carter, and DJ Marine. The 2024 Detroit edition of Afronation brought together the top performers in Afrobeats, Hip Hop, R&B, Dancehall, Amapiano, and Afro House. Unfortunately, and for various reasons, not all of the scheduled acts showed up. However, we kept track of the musicians who attended the festival over the weekend.
